A reinvention of the original Oscar®-winning hit film, "Fame" follows a talented group of dancers, singers, actors, and artists over four years at the New York City High School of Performing Arts, a diverse, creative powerhouse where students from all walks of life are given a chance to live out their dreams and achieve real and lasting fame...the kind that comes only from talent, dedication, and hard work. In an incredibly competitive atmosphere, plagued by self-doubt, each student's passion will be put to the test. In addition to their artistic goals, they have to deal with everything else that goes along with high school, a tumultuous time full of schoolwork, deep friendships, budding romance, and self-discovery. I was really looking forward to this but thought it was awful! weak story, weak acting, the talent wasn't even that good. I was actually bored and kept waiting for it to get better but it never did!!

A reinvention that we could have done without, the characters are slightly more fleshed out than in the original, but it is made sweet and sanitary along the way. The original was much grittier and somehow more real.

All of the musical numbers were fantastic, in particular Denise Dupree (Naturi Naughton) playing the piano in the theatre and the superb finale sequence. However I felt that in complete contrast to the 1980 version none of the characters were properly developed and no issues were dealt with. This is an all singing, all dancing feel good movie, but it lacks a sound story line and strong characters.

Fun film, but very fractured. Also suffered that it was too similar to the original film with parts of it seeming like a complete carbon copy- except more PG. It took me a while to get over these initial thoughts, if a film is to be remade I think it's worth making it different enough to the original. Having said that though- it was still good fun, and a laugh, my little sister really enjoyed it, not quite a guilty pleasure- but a guilty treat at least!

It could have been good. The problem is, at least for me, a movie needs a main story, and that's what Fame lacks. It's more a series of vignettes than a movie. At the end I was actually wondering what was the purpose of some of the characters, except taking the screeen away from potentially interesting storylines!
