Our critics review will be added soon.
The Fall is a charming, fantastical story with a haunting undertone and features the most endearing child actress since Jacques Doillon's Ponette... what more could a film boast? Moreover, this film could be watched on mute and still make a lasting impression on the viewer through its striking imagery. The Fall is the story of Alexandria, an injured immigrant child wandering the hospital where she is being treated. The viewer is drawn, with Alexandria into a dark and extravagant world through the story of a maimed stuntman who she befriends. The skilled interaction between the finely divided reality and fantasy is reminiscent of David Cronenberg's eXistenZ. I can not recommend this film any more strongly
Absoltuley amazing. fantastic cinematography. And the little girl acted supurbly. Cant praise it enough, and every one should see it as it is a masterpiece
Charming to be sure but felt a little disappointed.
solemn melancholic drama
I really enjoyed watching that film, the simple life in a hospital mixed with magical story is great. I would recommend to anybody.
It might be too light for adults and too dark for kids (some of the images can be terrifying to young eyes) and The Fall might fall between two stools, but damn it it's gorgeous.
Certainly flawed but so often so beautiful you couldn’t care less, The Fall is a wonderful counterpoint to staid blockbuster filmmaking and an object lesson that film can be art and entertaining and surprisingly economical. The story is the weak point here, mostly saved by fine supporting performances and a spellbinding debut by the young Catinca Untaru. She is the centre-point of the film but Tarsem is the star – his compositions are breathtaking and his imagery manages to tread that difficult line between dream and nightmare. The film is not perfect and it sometimes borders on incoherence (especially towards the melodramatic finale) but every potential pitfall is saved by the grandeur of the images and the simplicity of its actual message – a celebration of the power of a child’s imagination. Highly Recommended… if it ever comes to the cinema here.
Kind of a weird one but highly entertaining if you stick with it and kind of sad too really in places, well worth a watch, if the cell was your bag then this may be too
