The makers of Dorian Gray are very much aware of the teenage lust right now for sexy vampire tales (thanks largely to Twilight), and so they turn Oscar Wilde's glorious 1890 creation into a troubled (eternal) youth who tries to party away the pain of having sold his soul in order to stay forever young and beautiful.
THE VERDICT:
Ben Barnes (the young actor who derailed Disney's Narnia franchise by leading Prince Caspian to box-office disappointment) does a fine job in the lead role here, but it's really Colin Firth as Lord Henry Wotton, the young man's mentor when it comes to all things hedonistic, who leaves the biggest impression here.
