Beautiful setting but the movie itself is not interesting. I couldn't feel the drama...
Worth seeing just for the clothes and setting, if you like period dramas this is defo one not to miss
Michelle Pfeiffer is beautiful in this movie. As is Rupert Friend. As are the locations and the costumes. And that is the problem. It is a lot of style with not much substance. While a pleasant enough watch due to it's visual impact you walk away feeling like you haven't really seen anything much. It is hard to feel any sympathy for the characters and a stilted script doesn't help them convey their individual dilemmas. The ending feels as if it has cut out halfway through and the story is left hanging despite a narrator telling you the fate of the principal characters. Perhaps this film is somewhat a victim of high expectations reuniting as it does Pfeiffer with Stephen Frears, but for whatever reason it doesn't really work. It would be a pleasant enough watch on DVD from the comfort of your living room but hardly seems worth the cinema admission for its beauty alone.
test
You should better watch 'The Age of Innosence', Lewis and Pfeiffer make just a better couple.
