Movies.ie Critic Review

A gang of south London thugs get more than they bargained for when they kill the strange little creature that crashlands near their latest mugging, as larger versions of their trophy kill begin arriving. Soon, the lads are being hunted down throughout their estate, and they're not really sure why...

THE VERDICT: Pretty much doing for our little green friends what Shaun Of The Dead did for zombies, Joe Cornish's smartly trashy homage to Corman and his many disciples (but especially John Carpenter) is fittingly short and sweetly twisted. And every bit as inventive and cuddly as those woolly puppet recreations of classic movies they used to do on The Adam & Joe Show.

Didnt expect much from this movie but I was plesantly surprised. Lots of jumps and have to say the aliens were fantastic in it! The young actors were amazing, particulary Moses, a lot more to the character than you would have thought for a movie like this.

Actually very funny, a lot better than expected.

It's wall-to-wall sci-fi pop-culture bric-a-brac, yet it feels organic. There's something more at stake than the fate of a movie-ish Earth

I was so looking forward to this movies but I was massively disappointed. Basically when I watch a movie and soon side with the Aliens I know I'm not enjoying it.

A nice enjoyable romp of a film! Horror, Sci Fi, Scumbags... what more do you want?

A terrible film. It's not even funny. Somewhere along the line English society has lost the concept of speaking English.

Fantastic British take on the alien invasion genre. Well paced humour mixed in with brilliantly executed tension. Well worth watching.

Excellent debut from Joe Cornish in the creature feature tradition of Critters, Tremors and Slither. A group of inner city kids team up with local dealers, a middle class pot head and a nurse from their building to take on a herd of wolf-apes from outer space that has invaded their block. Great fun, well scripted and moves at a frenetic pace.

The flick packs a good few laughs and pretty neat scenes of tension and gore, suggesting that it's possible to create a good alien invasion film on a budget. The alien design is suggestive and fresh - unlike what we've come to see in mainstream cinema.

Enjoyable funny horror, that once it gets going is good fun. Just have to get over the first ten minutes where I struggled to understand what the actors are even saying, but once past that, its a good solid film.

Thanks for the tickets, was really impressed with this movie. A critters for the urban generation. Lots of humour and gore so right up my street. Never got boring and keeps you interested because the characters are so likeable. Anyone interested in sci-fi/comedy will lap this up. It's nice to have no expectations for a movie and come out of it laughing your head off.

Cheers for the tickets Movies.ie! Film was a lot of fun. Great lingo between the kids and the lead (Moses) is definitely one to watch. A lot of camera time spent on him and he carried it excellently. Nice to see an original horror film too with some inventive weaponry, monsters and a refreshingly dark tone throughout. Having said that it wasn't a particularly scarey film, more like Gremlins, Critters or Tremors. Recommended.

Thanks for tickets Movies.ie. Enjoyable flick, more of a straight scifi/horror than trailer might suggest. Also not much Nick Frost in the movie either. A nice premise that is executed well on an obviously limited budget. Switching the "alien invasion" to an urban council estate with a bunch of hoodied up asbo "youths" works well and provides some laughs. While its enjoyable I wouldn't strongly recommend it for a cinema viewing ... perhaps wait for the DVD release.
