Arthur Bach has always relied on two things to get by: his limitless fortune and the good sense of lifelong nanny Hobson to keep him out of trouble. Now he faces his biggest challenge, choosing between an arranged marriage that will ensure his lavish lifestyle or an uncertain future with the one thing money can't buy Naomi, the only woman he has ever loved. With Naomi's inspiration and some unconventional help from Hobson, Arthur will take the most expensive risk of his life and finally learn what it means to become a man, in this re-imagining of the 1981 classic.

Movies.ie Critic Review

Playboy drunk Arthur Bach (Brand) is given a stark choice by his mother – either accept marriage to the stern, social-climbing Susan (Garner), or say goodbye to the $950m family fortune. As the wedding day approaches though, Arthur falls in love with kooky working class gal Naomi (mumblecore poster girl Gerwig).

THE VERDICT: A sobering opening weekend in the US has cast doubt on Brand’s pulling power, and his Arthur certainly proves more boorish fop than loveable rapscallion. Then again, Arthur is a man out of time – back with the 1981 original, greed was good, and excess was the great escape. Now is not the time for self-confessed “pampered pricks”. Ultimately though, this just isn’t all that funny, despite the sterling cast.

I don't buy the notion that this is all a lavish fantasy to cheer us in troubled times. It's too clueless and condescending for that

I love Russell Brand and thought this character really suited him but this movie is just ok. It's visually lovely and there's good chemistry within the romance storyline but it's very predictable and lacks anything really appealing.

Far from irritate the hell out of you in this, surprisingly, Brand injects a new infectious fun feeling into Arthur

The best thing about this one - Helen Mirren and her bears. Aside from that bland stands in for Brand, as well as void of charm and pointless. Rent it as a last resort.

Although there a few laughs, this is very disappointing. Russel Brand gets very annoying very quickly, and he seems to be almost doing a Dudley Moore impression. Helen Mirren and Greta gerwig are great in supporting roles and help the film to a second star, but this could have been and should have been a lot better.

Entertaining enough with some laughs. If you like Russell Brand then you'll probably like it!

This film was a good way to pass in an afternoon, but wasn't anything fantastic.....however, I thought that Russell Brand was very good in it and lived up to the original character of Arthur more than anyone else probably would :)
