Mary Horowitz is a cruciverbalist -- a crossword puzzle constructor. Her brain spins at warp speed with an endless stream of arcane information. She can come up with the perfect word - and dozens with the same meaning - at a moment's notice, but "normal" behavior eludes her. When she is set up on a blind date with handsome cable-news cameraman Steve, Mary thinks the chemistry is undeniable -- that Steve is "the one." Steve, on the other hand, thinks Mary is crazy. Mary, who just knows she's found her soul mate, decides to do anything and go anywhere to be with him. She begins to pursue Steve relentlessly as he crisscrosses the country, covering breaking news stories. But when Mary becomes embroiled in the news story of the year, Steve and Hartman begin to see her differently. Hartman is plagued by guilt, knowing his game of one-upmanship with Steve has placed her squarely in harms way, while Steve is feeling his own pangs of remorse at his callous behavior. Despite the media storm surrounding her, Mary with her upbeat, unaffected manner brings together a small community of new friends. And all who encounter Mary will realize that sometimes the ones who don't fit in are the ones who really stand out.

You know when you initially read the basis for it, it doesn't actually sound that bad...Sandra Bullock, Bradley Cooper I mean 2 great actors. Unfortunately while Cooper and Bullock both have solid performances, it was just missing something which helped it gel together. Having said that I laughed my ass off at Coopers reaction when hes in the van and reacting to her following, was quite hilarious. Anyway, while I enjoyed that one part, the overall film was a let down. I give it 2 stars just for being a different story than everything else thats coming out these days.

On paper, a crazy romcom starring Sandra Bullock and Bradley Cooper could only be a good thing. Wrong

Not great, would pass the time but definitely not Bullock's best movie, or Cooper's for that matter.

Not as bad as I expected it to be. Thought it would be terrible, but it went through stages of thinking how crazy and demented the Mary character is, but then you start to feel slightly sorry for how she misunderstands things. A delightful hippy part in it, ending with a strange news story that someone must have been high to be writing. But extra star for adorable hamster in it!!

terrible movie... The cast is ok but the story is so wrong on so many levels, it depicts Mary (and I'd say women in general) as weird, clingy,...

I thought this movie was brilliant. Kept me laughing the whole way through. Bit predictable in places and I've come to the conclusion that I dislike Sandra Bullock, but overall I think it is a good movie.

Watch a trailer for All About Steve and one thing you will know about his film is that it looks dreadful. I saw the trailer a while back and it looked disgracefully bad. But it was released in the US a while back and when it came down to it the films cast was just too intriguing. Bradley Cooper follows up his brilliant display in The Hangover as title character Steve, Sandra Bullock is the films main character and Thomas Haden Church has a strong supporting role. And so despite my skepticism about how good the film will be I went to see it and although it was terrible, it was slightly better than I expected. The film follows Mary Hororwitz, a smart and reclusive crossword puzzle writer whose life is consumed by work. She is once again set up on a blind date by her mother only this time the guy, news cameraman Steve, is better looking than the norm and Mary immediately falls for him. Only thing is after two minutes alone with him he realises she's a bit off in the brain chamber. And so he lies to her saying he had to go to a news story across the country and wishes she could come with him. The next day she submits a crossword titled 'All About Steve" (Hence the film title). She is fired and sees this as a sign from God to follow Steve across the country and stalk him. This, as usual, leads to 'hilarious' consequences. The list of flaws in this film is perhaps greater than any other film I have seen this year. For a start I was slightly angry at the films main story. It makes a joke about a woman with a severe mental health problem. I wouldn't mind them doing this if they did it well but the character of Mary is not at all likable. When she was fired from her job for the first time we feel sympathy for her but this is immediately destroyed by her turning into an utter psychopath. She is too strange to engage, she's pathetically annoying and clueless and not only does every joke fail on delivery but they are so terrible that I found myself just getting plain angry at them. The films opening scenes are all useless and the narration over them, by Mary, is completely normal. In the film she always uses the most elaborate words she can find in her head and never shuts up but in the narration she talks completely normally. But the biggest problem with the film was that it was quite simply too clichéd and too cringey. I couldn't enjoy the film and it made me feel awkward. I do think the film would've been fairly decent if it had been made a drama instead of a comedy. The only good moments in the first hour were the few delicate moments in which you see Mary's alienation and loneliness. Again these moments make you warm up to her a bit but this is again ruined when she talks. She knows too much and is unaccessible but yet while audiences hate her somehow everyone in the film loves her after talking to her for a few minutes. And what annoyed me most about this film is the ending. The ending had the potential to turn the whole film around. And all it would have taken to make it better would've been some better editing and more focused structure. It was one of those 'Into The Wild' endings which I am a sucker for but they did it really bad and kept trying to make it funny. If only they realised earlier that the film was not at all humorous and they could have ended the film strongly and saved it from being called the worst film ever by American critics. The cast of the film were a bit hit and miss. Sandra Bullock is terrible and fails to at all make her character relatable or easy to watch. The best scenes were the ones in which she did not feature but sadly these scenes were far too rare. I expected a lot from Bradley Cooper as he has been very funny in everything I've seen him in in the past. But he was far too cheesy and never provided a laugh. I am suprised as to how he managed to go to this from the exceptional 'The Hangover'. The two people who play Mary's parents are utterly unconvincing. There are two great cast members who brighten up this film ever so slightly. The first is Ken Jeong, who for me is perhaps the most underrated comedy actor around at the moment. But the films best cast member is without doubt Thomas Haden Church. He is hilarious in the film and the only time I actually laughed in this film was after he said or did something funny. After the film my best memories of it were the moments he was on screen. Sadly even he could not save this film. so all in all this is a dreadful film which I felt had the potential to be a lot better as a comedy and had the potential to be great as a drama film. It's some kind of road trip meets chick flick meets Rainman and this is in no way a good combination. I wouldn't go as far as the Americans to say this is the worst film ever made, but it almost was. I wanted it to be decent, and it could have been but they handled it poorly and what we are subjected to is 100 minutes of mediocre acting, dull comedy and utterly unlikable characters. I would not recommend at all but just know that it could've been good. Could've been.
