Back in 2013, we heard that director Robert Zemeckis was planning a narrative drama based on Jeff Malmberg’s award-winning documentary ‘Marwencol.’ Now THR brings word that ‘Foxcatcher’ star Steve Carell is close to putting pen to paper and committing to the Caroline Thompson-scripted drama.
Carell will play artist and photographer Mark Hogancamp, who, after a vicious beating is left brain-damaged and broke. He seeks recovery in “Marwencol,” a 1/6th scale World War II-era town he creates in his backyard.
In addition to directing, Zemeckis will also produce the drama through his ImageMovers shingle. Malmberg is on board to serve as executive producer.
