Ralph Fiennes Tackling Rudolf Nureyev Film

Actor-turned-filmmaker Ralph Fiennes (‘Spectre,’ ‘The Grand Budapest Hotel’) is to step behind the camera for an as-yet-untitled movie about iconic Russian ballet dancer Rudolf Nureyev.

Plot details are under wraps, however Screen Daily hears the plan is not for a biopic but instead a drama that charts a specific incident in the life of the celebrated dancer who defected from the Soviet Union to the West in 1961, despite KGB efforts to stop him. Nureyev died in 1993 at the age of 54 from an AIDS-related illness.

David Hare (‘The Reader’) is attached to pen the screenplay. Gabrielle Tana, who has worked with Fiennes on ‘Coriolanus,’ ‘The Invisible Woman,’ and ‘The Duchess’ is producing.
