Oakes Fegley and Oona Laurence Leading PETE’S DRAGON for David Lowery

Young stars cast in ‘Pete’s Dragon’ reboot…

Disney’s upcoming “reinvention” of the 1977 children’s classic ‘Pete’s Dragon’ has reportedly found its leads, with Variety hearing that young stars Oakes Fegley (‘This Is Where I Leave You’) and Oona Laurence (‘Southpaw’) are set to star.

While the new film will not be a musical, it will borrow elements from the Don Chaffey-directed original which follows Pete (Fegley), an orphan boy and his best friend Elliot, who happens to be a Dragon. The trade has Laurence playing Pete’s friends, Natalie, a newly created character.

David Lowery (‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’) is attached to direct, from a script he wrote with Toby Halbrooks.
