While the Fede Alvarez-directed remake of ‘Evil Dead’ is still on the hunt for a female lead following the departure of Lily Collins last month, Variety is reporting that Shiloh Fernandez (‘Red Riding Hood,’ ‘Deadgirl’) has landed the male lead.
An update of Sam Raimi’s 1981 cult classic, the new take will follow five twenty-something friends who are vacationing in a remote cabin where they discover a “Book of the Dead.” The group unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.
Sadly the remake won’t be featuring an appearance by fan favourite Ash Williams, but it will have Sam Raimi, Rob Tapert and Bruce Campbell on board as producers.
Variety adds that Fernandez has also landed a starring role in ‘Deep Powder,’ the new film by writer-director Mo Ogrodnik (‘Uptown Girls,’ ‘Ripe’). Plot details are being kept under wraps.
