Russell Crowe may have added another possible project to his future slate, as the Australian actor is reportedly up for the title role of in Jaume Collet-Serra’s ‘Dracula’ re-imagining, ‘Harker.’
According to Vulture’s source, Crowe has entered talks for the film, which sees the classic vampire tale told from the point of view of Jonathan Harker, “who — instead of his traditional role as a lawyer — is now a Scotland Yard detective investigating Dracula’s string of grisly murders in England.”
Jaume Collet-Serra (‘Unknown,’ ‘Orphan’) was initially attached as director, but Warner Bros. moved the director to its live-action remake of Katsuhiro Otomo’s anime classic ‘Akira’ after Albert and Allen Hughes dropped out. Vulture adds that with production on ‘Akira’ having stalled due to its financial problems, the studio is looking to bring Collet-Serra back for ‘Harker,’ before he gets to work on a rebudgeted ‘Akira.’
Even if a deal with Crowe is reached, it would be some time before ‘Harker’ could be begin production, as Crowe has a quite a full slate ahead of him. The actor has just begun shooting Tom Hooper’s adaptation of ‘Les Miserables,’ and will follow that up with Albert Hughes’ ‘Broken City’ and Akiva Goldsman‘s ‘Winter’s Tale.’ Crowe is also being courted for the title role in Darren Aronofsky’s biblical epic ‘Noah,’ a part he is strongly considering. Then there are the rumours that the actor is up for a role in José Padilha’s remake of ‘Robocop.’
