Hollywood vet to lend his voice to animated sequel.

Deadline reports that legendary actor Al Pacino is set to make his animated film debut in ‘Despicable Me 2,’ voicing the sequel’s villain.

The ‘Scarface’ star replaces Javier Bardem (‘Skyfall,’ ‘No Country for Old Men’) who was previously lined up to lend his voice to the character of El Macho, before subsequently dropping out.

Steve Carell will be reprising his role of Gru, with the rest of the original voice cast expected to return, including everybody’s favourites, the minions.

the first movie was so (ahem) cute that i hope they dont over do it with this one and turn D1 into just another sappy franchise. and not sure about al being a voice talent, its so distinct that unlike the last movie where you struggled to hear the actual actors in the voices al will just be plain old al with a cheesy line about his little friend or some other horrible gag thrown in thinking that adults will get a kick outta it... WE WONT !

Exactly!! If his little friend is brought into, it'll be all kinda of palms all over faces.

I'm sure he's well able to act without nodding to his more famous characters. Argh!! Pet peeve right there >.<

Ah no I loved the first one, it was very funny and as twist says...very "cute".

Was great as a one-off, don't think it would translate v well to a sequel :/

I still need to see the 1st movie, but hey pacino is a good choice for the villain.

I liked the first and am really hoping the second is as good, if not better.
