Northern Irish director Mary McGuckian (‘Man On The Train,’ ‘Rag Tale,’ ‘Best’) is set to direct ‘The Price of Desire,’ a romantic period drama based on the life of Irish architect and designer Eileen Gray that will star Shannyn Sossamon (‘The End of Love,’ ‘The Day’), Swiss actor Vincent Perez (‘Indochine,’ ‘The Crow: City of Angels’), and singer/actress Alanis Morissette (‘Weeds,’ ‘Dogma’).
Sossamon will portray Gray, with the film focuses on her relationship with the famous Swiss/French architect Le Corbusier (played by Perez) and how their relationship to each other as well as with Gray’s iconic E1027 Villa in Roquebrune Cap Martin, France which influenced and inspired a century of modern architecture.
Morisette will take the role of Gray's lover, the French night-club singer Marisa Damia.
The film is an Irish-Belgian co-production between EG Film Productions Limited, A Pembridge Pictures and Lightstream Pictures, in association with Windmill Lane Pictures and Belgium’s Saga Film.
“Eileen Gray’s evolution as an artist to recognition as a major influence on a century of minimalist and modernist design and architecture has resonance and relevance today. As an Irishman, it is a privilege to have worked with Mary over the past few years on the development and production of this prestigious picture,” said Lightstream Pictures producer Garrett Kelleher.
The filmmakers have also launched a Kickstarter campaign to help raise money for the restoration of Gray's E1027 Villa in Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, France, where a good portion of the film will take place. Villa E1027 is expected to open to the public when the film wraps up principle photography.
