Fassbender linked to videogame-based feature.

Variety is reporting that Michael Fassbender (‘Promethues,’ ‘Shame,’ ‘X-Men: First Class’) is attached to produce and star in a feature adaptation of Ubisoft's videogame franchise ‘Assassin's Creed.’

A massively popular series, ‘Assassin’s Creed’ revolves around Desmond Miles, a bartender who is captured by a secret corporation called Abstergo Industries and forced to go back in time to various historical periods like the Renaissance and Crusades to relieve the memories of his ancestors -- all assassins -- in order to recover ancient artefacts.

"Michael Fassbender was our first choice" to play the franchise's iconic hooded hero, said Jean-Julien Baronnet, CEO of Paris-based Ubisoft Motion Pictures. "Michael is an extremely smart, talented, versatile and committed actor."

Ubisoft was negotiating with Sony Pictures to develop and distribute the historical actioner but now, according to Variety, those negotiations are on hold. Ubisoft is now planning to finance and produce the film independently through its recently-launched Ubisoft Motion Pictures banner which is headed up by former EuropaCorp CEO Jean-Julien Baronnet. Fassbender will produce the adaptation with his DMC Film partner Conor McCaughan.

The French videogame publisher and developer is also in the process of developing live action adaptations of ‘Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell’ and ‘Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon,’ and has an animated TV series based on the ‘Raving Rabbids’ franchise ready to air on Nickelodeon.

Good casting but still unsure if this will actually get made.

Casting Fassbender in anything is always a good decision! I've seen the game, never played it but it looks great... Chad you'll have to fill me in on what it's all about!

    Basic synopsis:

Assassins creed is about an ancient war between the Assassins (for lack of a better description, the Good Guys) and the Templar Order (or the Knights Templar, for lack of a better description the bad guys).

The game follows a Character called Desmond Miles who uses a machine called the Animus to access and experience the lives of his ancestors.

In the first Assassins Creed he relived the life of an Assassin called "Altaïr ibn-La'Ahad" during the Crusades, the second he played an Italiant named Ezio Auditore (da Firenze) during the Italian Renaissance, and the 3rd one due out soon he takes the role of a half british/half indian Assassins during the American Revolution.

The general idea is that before the current race of humans there was another humanoid race that inhabited the globe, and they left a message that the earth was facing imminent destruction, and how to stop it, and the journeys back through the animus help them unlock the secrets.

How they are going to translate this into a movie, somehow I don't see Fassbender playing an italian.

Hope this gets made and Fassbender is a good choice. But, I'm not getting too excited at the moment as I'm expecting that this wont ever get past pre-production

Fassbender is a great actor, but not sure even he can make this good. Generally speaking game to film adaptations don't work.
