‘Avengers Assemble’ star circles true life drama.

Variety has word that Mark Ruffalo (‘Avengers Assemble,’ ‘The Kids Are All Right’) is in talks to join Steve Carell and Channing Tatum for the long-in-development drama ‘Foxcatcher.’

The film is based on true story of John du Pont (Carrell), the seemingly harmless stamp-collecting, bird-watching multimillionaire and paranoid schizophrenic heir to the du Pont chemical fortune who built a wrestling training facility called Team Foxcatcher on his Pennsylvania estate. In 1996, in an apparent fit of paranoia, du Pont infamously shot and killed Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler and long-time friend Dave Schultz (Ruffalo) in at the state-of-the-art training facility.

Contrary to previous reports, Tatum will be playing Schultz’s younger brother, Mark, who was also an Olympic champion wrestler.

Production is scheduled to kick off in October under the direction of ‘Moneyball’ helmer Bennett Miller.
