Movie Wars Who should play the next HULK

HULK SMASH, ED NORTON SMASH NO MORE? WHO BE HULK?

HULK SMASH, ED NORTON SMASH? Well apparently no more, with Marvel’s Kevin Feige reportedly looking out for a new Hulk for Joss Whedon’s forthcoming Avengers flick? But who should step in front of the green screen to play the not-so-friendly green giant? We investigate in this week’s movie wars!

RUSSELL CROWE

He’s played a a schizophrenic bookworm, a gladiator and of course his latest offering: Robin Hood. Why not have the badass Aussie play the the ultimate badass? Judging from his reputation off-screen, it might offer the ever, shall we say “testy” Crowe some much needed catharis…

CHRISTIAN BALE

We know what you’re thinking – Batman can’t play Hulk and we’d agree if you were talking about Clooney’s Batman or (especially) Michael Keaton’s, but lets face it , Bale can do no wrong: Newsies, Swing Kids, American Psycho, The man is a chameleon, why not have HULK, SMASH? Our sympathies to whomever is the director of photography…

LEO DICAPRIO

If we are to believe IMDB, the star is in line to play Aquaman in a forthcoming movie but really, we’d rather see our Romeo take on a more challenging role and the Hulk might just be that part?

JOAQUIN PHOENIX

According to CHUD, Marvel Studios has already extended an offer to Joaquin Phoenix to play the role. Phoenix, a name we haven’t heard much of in the past 2 years since he walked away from acting to concentrate on a rap career (how is that going, Joaquin?) has not appeared in a movie since Two Lovers, however his post-acting exploits have been filmed by Casey Affleck for a documentary titled I’m Still Here. While we’re not sure if the ever-bonkers Phoenix is right for the role, we’d gladly see him put down the microphone in favour of a camera…

ED NORTON

And let’s not forget the last man to step behind a green screen for the Hulk: Ed Norton. A controversial character in the Hulk saga, we have to admit we still have a soft spot for Norton but with studio president Kevin Feige making comments regarding the recasting of the role for the Avengers movie, saying that they were looking for a “team player” to take on the role, we wouldn’t put any bets on Norton returning…
