Movie Wars Shrek 4 versus Toy Story 3

It’s a battle of the cartoon heavyweights as we pit Shrek 4 against Toy Story 3

2010 is a big year for animation with two of the biggest names returning to our screens this summer: Toy Story and Shrek.

Returning for it’s fourth adventure, Shrek is back in the land of Far, Far Away Away. Our hero is now settled as a family man but longing to feel like a real ogre once more. Tricked into signing a pact with the smooth talking but shifty character Rumpelstiltskin, Shrek is transported to an alternative reality where he must keep all his wits about him if he is to be reunited with his friends and his true love, Princess Fiona. So what can we expect? Well the story certainly has more on offer then Shrek 3, which failed to reach audiences the way the first two in the franchise did. Now, in the alternate universe, we can at least be guaranteed laughs from our heroes counterparts – including a fat Puss and an amazonian Fiona, but will that be enough to put Shrek back on the map?

Meanwhile it’s been an eleven year gap since Woody, Buzz and co. have been seen on the big screen and time too has moved forward in the Toy Story universe. Andy is now all grown up and those toys that were once so beloved are now obsolete. Already we can smell the “coping with loss” theme running through Pixar’s latest adventure however judging by the trailer, there will be plenty of laughs and hijinks as our heroes brave a new world: daycare…

If we are to believe the studios, this will be the final tale for both franchise, but which cartoon heavyweight will go out with a bang and which will fall short of animation glory? Have your say in the poll below:
