The X-Men prequel will now get a May 2011 release date.

The Irish release date for the X-Men prequel FIRST CLASS has been brought forward to Monday - May 30th 2011. The film will now take the unusual step of opening on a Monday, something which worked very well for the Simon Pegg/Nick Frost film last week. Their movie PAUL made £5.5 million on its opening week at Irish and UK cinemas thanks to its valentines day head start.

The prequel is written by X-Men movie guru Bryan Singer and is being directed by Kick-Ass helmer Matthew Vaughn.

that's really strange, I was reading last week that the release date might be delayed!

I have no problem with this hitting screens earlier than planned. The first trailer was good and I'm kind of looking forward to it now. I'm also impressed by how quickly this seemed to get made. It seems like they only started filming a few months ago and now they are already getting ready for a release.

Maybe they'll adjust the American release dates too but it would be a pleasant suprise to get to see it before it gets released in the states.
