Last November it was announced that Steven Soderbergh had found his next project, ‘The Bitter Pill,’ a thriller set in the world of psychopharmacology. Now, according to The Playlist, the film is being referred to as ‘The Side Effects,’ and along with locking down financing, the thriller has a cast.
Blake Lively (‘The Green Lanter,’ ‘The Town’) is set to topline, with Jude Law (‘Contagion’), and Channing Tatum (‘Magic Mike,’ ‘Haywire’) taking the male leads. Lively will play, “Emily Hawkins, a woman who turns to prescription meds to cope with the anxiety of the upcoming release from prison of her husband.” Tatum will be taking the role of her husband, while Law will play Emily’s new psychiatrist.
The psychological thriller was penned by Soderbergh’s frequent collaborator Scott Z. Burns (‘Contagion,’ ‘The Informant!’). Plans are for production to kick off in April for a 2013 release.
Soberbergh’s action thriller ‘Haywire’ starring Gina Carano, Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor and Michael Fassbender hits Irish cinemas January 20th.
