Patty Jenkins is in early talks to take the director’s chair for Marvel Studios and Disney's ‘Thor 2.’ The sequel would be the director's first feature since helming the acclaimed 2003 indie ‘Monster’ starring Charlize Theron.
Jenkins has spent the last few years directing episodes of TV shows like ‘Entourage,’ ‘Arrested Development,’ ‘The Sarah Silverman Program’ and the two-hour pilot episode of the crime drama series ‘The Killing,’ for which she received an Emmy nomination.
In a recent interview with EW, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige said the Don Payne-scripted sequel will “take Thor literally to other worlds.” ‘Thor 2’ will “primarily be the journey of that character, of he and Jane Foster (Natalie Portman) and how the new dynamic with his father is working out, as well as what are the broader stakes for The Nine Worlds.”
Irish director Brian Kirk (Game of Thrones,’ ‘Boardwalk Empire,’ ‘Dexter,’ ‘Luther’) was previously in negotiations to helm the hammer-wielding superhero’s next adventure but ultimately ended up moving on to other projects. ‘Thor 2’ is set to hit cinemas July 2013.
