‘Underworld’ star to lead legal drama.

Kate Beckinsale is set to star in writer/director Karen Moncrieff’s legal drama ‘The Trials of Cate McCall,’ reports Deadline.

The film sees Beckinsale playing a former hotshot prosecutor who threw her career away when she became an addict. In order to regain credibility and win custody of her estranged daughter, the lawyer takes on the appeal of a woman wrongfully convicted of murder. Along the way she battles crooked cops, a broken system, and her own demons.

Deadline adds that Nick Nolte and James Cromwell will have supporting roles in the film which has begun shooting in Los Angeles.

as much as I love kate she really needs to do something to recover from her pointless casting in contraband which made us wonder is there anything she can do to save herself from fading away into the background characters like many actresses before her. oh wait shes already done that... by marrying a director

Kate Beckinsale is really not good at picking roles. Does she turn down all roles that are in any way original.
