Mortal Kombat Becomes Webisode Series

Mortal Kombat concept trailer being made into web series.

Last June, director Kevin Tancharoen (‘Fame’) released a concept trailer for ‘Mortal Kombat Rebirth.’ The trailer was created by Tancharoen to sell Warner Bros. on his vision for a reimagined Mortal Kombat film.

Well it seem the director was successful as Tancharoen has been handed the keys by Warner Bros. to a 10-part “webisode” series, which will focus on the story of the character Jax, who will be played by the same man who played him the the concept trailer: Michael Jai White.

Tancharoen’s vision of the Mortal Kombat series features an alternate version of the Mortal Kombat universe. The characters of the game are portrayed with vastly different origins, based on realism. There is no mention of Outworld or any other supernatural elements, although the tournament itself is a main part of the storyline in this short. Tancharoen himself has noted that he wouldn’t shy away from supernatural elements entirely, but they have to be “done in a very tasteful way”.

The 8 minute trailer, which can be viewed below, also stars Jeri Ryan, Ian Anthony Dale, Matt Mullins, Lateef Crowder, Richard Dorton and James Lew.
