Sequel gets underway for Brian Bertino’s horror pic ‘The Strangers’.

Despite the fact ‘The Strangers’ has yet to grace Irish screens, it looks like a sequel is set to invade  cinemas.

Brian Bertino, who wrote the original and made his directing debut on the film is said to be working on a script for sequel/prequel in which a couples house is invaded by masked strangers.

The expectation is that Liv Tyler, along with several of the original villains, will return. Bertino is attached to writer, though it isn’t clear whether he will direct.

Budgeted at $9 million, the film grossed $54 million in the States in a highly competitive summer release slot. It has just begun an international rollout that expands to the Ireland this Friday. Production on the sequel is slated for early 2009.
