Mimi Leder Adapting Remarques ALL QUIET ON THE WESTERN FRONT

New adaptation of the classic anti-war novel.

Mimi Leder (‘The Peacemaker,’ ‘Deep Impact,’ ‘Pay It Forward’) is set to direct a new adaptation of Erich Maria Remarque’s 1929 WWI novel ‘All Quiet on the Western Front.’

Remarque’s novel explores the physical and emotional effects of trench warfare on a young and idealistic German soldier and his friends. Daniel Radcliffe was rumoured to be taking the lead back in June 2010, but the THR article doesn’t mention the actor.

The story was previously adapted by Lewis Milestone back in 1930 and won Oscars for best director and best picture, along with Oscars for best cinematography and best screenplay.

Leder will be helming from a script by Lesley Paterson and Ian Stokell. Production will begin in 2012.
