Mike Myers Writing AUSTIN POWERS Musical

Swinging super-spy heading to Broadway.

Tony award winning theatre director Casey Nicholaw is in talks to take the reins of a stage musical of ‘Austin Powers.’

Franchise creator and star Mike Myers is developing the project with Warner Bros Theatre Ventures and according to sources, the musical will be set in 1960s London and serve as a prequel to the movies.

Set to the music of Burt Bacharach and Elvis Costello, the show will detail how the horny spy first acquired his mojo. THR adds that while Myers will write the story, he will not be taking a starring role in the production.

Nicholaw previously co-directed the award winning Broadway hit ‘The Book of Mormon,’ as well as the stage version of ‘Elf.’ Nicholaw will be joined by Colin Callender and partner Sonia Friedman as producers.

As reported back in March 2010, Myers is developing a fourth cinematic outing of the swinging super-spy. Although that project has yet to reach the scripting stage.
