Michael Shannon Has MIDNIGHT SPECIAL With Jeff Nichols

Regular collaborators planning sci-fi film.

Writer/director Jeff Nichols and actor Michael Shannon, who previously worked together on ‘Mud,’ ‘Take Shelter’ and ‘Shotgun Stories,’ are said to re-teaming for the sci-fi film ‘Midnight Special.’

Nichols penned the screenplay and while plot details are being kept firmly under wraps, Deadline’s sources describe it as “a contemporary science fiction chase film.”

The untitled project will be produced by Sarah Green (‘Mud,’ ‘The Tree of Life,’ ‘Frida’) and Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (‘Dead Man Down,’ ‘Insidious,’ ‘The Bay’).

Nichols’ ‘Mud’ co-starring Shannon, Matthew McConaughey and Reese Witherspoon is in cinemas now. Shannon’s next, the fact-based hit man thriller ‘The Iceman’ arrives in Irish cinemas in June, followed a week later by his turn as General Zod in the Zack Snyder-directed ‘Man Of Steel.’
