Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts to Topline AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

Actresses board adaptation of award-winning play.

It has been confirmed that Meryl Streep (‘The Iron Lady’) and Julia Roberts (‘Eat Pray Love’) are set to star in ‘August: Osage County,’ based on the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play by Tracy Letts. Taking the director’s chair for the feature will be ‘The Company Men’ helmer John Wells.

The film focuses on the dark, hilarious and deeply touching story of the strong-willed women of the Weston family, whose lives have diverged until a family crisis brings them back to the Midwest house they grew up in, and to the dysfunctional woman who raised them.

Streep will play the pill-popping matriarch Violet Weston, with Roberts taking the role of her complicated adult daughter Barbara. Principal photography is scheduled for late 2012.

Letts’ play made its Broadway debut in December 2007 after premiering at Chicago’s legendary Steppenwolf Theatre earlier that year. It continued with a successful international run.
