Barry Sonenfeld to direct remake of Korean hit Scandal Makers

“Men in Black” helmer Barry Sonenfeld is attached to direct and executive produce the US remake of Korean sleeper hit Scandal Makers.

Kang Hyung-chul’s Scandal Makers portrays the comedy and drama that ensues when a radio DJ in his mid-thirties suddenly discovers he has not only a full-grown daughter but also a kindergarten-age grandson when they both come to live with him.

Sonenfeld reportedly saw Scandal Makers and agreed to direct and executive produce the US remake because he found the original “funny, intelligent, sincere” and with a universal quality that would work with wider audiences.

Starring Cha Tae-hyun (My Sassy Girl), the original Scandal Makers opened last December in South Korea and has since clocked up 8.2 million admissions.
