Melissa Leo Added to THE EQUALIZER

Actress joining Washington for crime thriller.

Oscar-winner Melissa Leo (‘The Fighter,’ ‘Oblivion’) and David Meunier (‘Justified,’ ‘Revolution’) are set to join Denzel Washington, Chloë Moretz and Marton Csokas for the big screen reboot of ‘The Equalizer,’ Deadline reports.

The film, which would reunite Leo with her ‘Olympus Has Fallen’ helmer Antoine Fuqua, sees Washington in the role of Robert McCall, a retired covert operative who, seeking redemption for his dark deeds, quits a CIA-like agency and puts an ad in the paper that reads simply: “Got a problem? Odds against you? Call the Equalizer.”

Leo is up for the role of McCall’s former counter-terrorism handler, who provides him with intelligence about who he is facing when he runs up against a new adversary. Meunier, best known for playing Johnny Crowder in the hit series ‘Justified,’ will take the role of Slavi, a brutal and sleazy Russian pimp for whom Moretz’s character works.

Principal photography is set for mid-June in Boston with Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch producing.
