Mel Gibson Joins MACHETE KILLS

Upcoming sequel enlists Gibson.

Earlier this month it was revealed that Robert Rodriguez was looking to add Mel Gibson to ‘Machete Kills,’ and now Deadline has confirmation that the ‘Lethal Weapon’ star is in “serious discussions” for a supporting role.

The sequel to the 2010 Grindhouse actioner sees Machete (Danny Trejo), the blade wielding former Federale, “drafted by the U.S. government to track an arms dealer through Mexico before he can launch a rocket.”

Rodriguez, who co-directed the first film with Ethan Maniquis, has expressed interest in tackling the sequel alone, but due to scheduling with ‘Sin City 2’ he may have to enlist the help of a co-director. Talking to Heat Vision, the filmmaker said:

“Currently I am directing it, but we’re checking to see if there’s going to be the need for another director if I have to go off and do Sin City. I wasn’t sure what the timing on Sin City was or if I would have to step off to do Sin City at a certain point, depending on when Machete went. But Machete looks like it’s going to go pretty quickly so it’s possible that I will direct the whole thing.”
