McTiernan Returning With RED SQUAD

Legendary action director selects first post-jail project…

John McTiernan (‘The 13th Warrior,’ ‘Predator,’ ‘Die Hard,’ ‘The Hunt for Red October’) has closed a deal to direct the action thriller ‘Red Squad.’

Featuring a script by Cam Cannon and Jorge Suarez, the plot centres on Trent Mitchell, a former DEA agent, who has always had a rogue streak, and his select team of mercenaries as they descend upon a Mexican border town in a daring attempt to neutralize a ruthless drug lord.

Richard Rionda Del Castro of Hannibal Classics will produce the project with Michael Mendelsohn. Executive producers on the project include Patricia Eberle, Hayley Arabia, Michael Tadross Jr., Cannon. Patriot Pictures will finance.

‘Red Squard’ will be McTiernan’s first post-prison feature. The legendary action director, who last directed 2003’s ‘Basic,’ is expected to be ending his 12-month prison sentence later this month. McTiernan went to prison last year for perjuring himself to FBI agents who were investigating the Anthony Pellicano Hollywood wiretap case, in which producer Charles Roven was involved.
