Matt Reeves Signs On To Direct Frankenstein Adaptation THIS DARK ENDEAVOR

Matt Reeves to helm one of the many Frankenstein project in development.

‘Let Me In’ and ‘Cloverfield’ director Matt Reeves has been tapped to helm ‘This Dark Endeavor,’ with Jacob Aaron Estes (‘Mean Creek’) penning the script. The movie is based on Kenneth Oppel’s soon to be released novel ‘This Dark Endeavor: The Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein.’

‘This Dark Endeavor’ follows a young Victor Frankenstein and his attempt to save his twin brother, Konrad, who falls gravely ill. Victor seeks out a mysterious old alchemist to help him create the Elixir of Life, a fabled serum that will give the drinker perpetual health. Together with his friend Elizabeth, they set out on a dangerous adventure to find the three ingredients needed to save Konrad’s life.

In related news, Deadline reports that Pulitzer-winning playwright David Auburn is set to pen the script for a big screen adaptation of Peter Ackroyds’ ‘The Casebook of Victor Frankenstein.’

Ackroyds’ novel covers the youthful days of Frankenstein, who begins experimenting with corpses, influenced by the outspoken English poet Percy Bysshe Shelley. ‘Frankenstein’ author Mary Shelley is a character in the film as well.
