Long-gestating satire finds its new male lead…

Alexander Payne’s high concept sci-fi ‘Downsizing’ may finally be coming to fruition, as Mike Fleming over at Deadline is hearing that Matt Damon is close to signing on to play the male lead.

The script by Payne with Jim Taylor is said to be “a social satire in which a guy (Damon) realizes he would have a better life if he were to shrink himself.”

Payne is also rumoured to be eyeing Alec Baldwin (’30 Rock’) for a supporting role.

‘Downsizing’ has been stuck in development hell for a number of years now, and was at one point set to star Paul Giamatti (‘Sideways’), Reese Witherspoon (‘Election’), Meryl Streep (‘Into The Woods’), and Sacha Baron Cohen (‘Grimsby’).
