MASTERS OF THE UNIVERSE Reboot Hires New Writer

Jon M. Chu no longer directing…

Heat Vision is hearing that ‘The Lone Ranger,’ ‘The Mask of Zorro’ and ‘Pirates of the Caribbean’ series co-scribe Terry Rossio has been brought in to provide the script for Sony’s long-in-development ‘Masters of the Universe.’

Based on Mattel’s ‘Masters Of The Universe’ cartoon and signature toy line, the story follows He-Man, a super-strong barbarian who, together with his friends, defends the realm of Eternia and the ancient secrets of Castle Grayskull from Skeletor, the self proclaimed Overlord of Evil. Unlike the Dolph Lundgren and Frank Langella starring 1987 movie, the reboot will be set on Eternia.

Jon M. Chu (‘G.I. Joe: Retaliation’) signed up to take the director’s chair last year but is no longer involved. Michael Finch, Alex Litvak, and Richard Wenk penned previous drafts of the screenplay.
