Mara, Blunt and Hall Up for TRANSCENDENCE

Trio in consideration for the female lead.

Deadline has word that Rooney Mara (‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’), and British actresses Emily Blunt (‘Looper’) and Rebecca Hall (‘The Awakening’) are all up for the female lead in Oscar-winning cinematographer Wally Pfister’s directorial debut ‘Transcendence.’

The sci-fi tale, which was penned by newcomer Jack Paglen, has Johnny Depp attached to play the lead, a scientist whose brain is uploaded into a supercomputer with the aim of creating the world’s first machine that can think for itself. Of course, there is more to the plot but we don’t want to spoil it.

Production is scheduled for early March with Christopher Nolan and Emma Thomas executive producing. The filmmakers are expected to decide on the female lead in the next week.
