MAGIC MIKE Sequel Gets Director and Title

Stripper dramedy sequel moving forward…

‘Criminal’ and ‘Wind Chill’ helmer Gregory Jacobs is taking the director’s chair for ‘Magic Mike XXL,’ the follow-up to Steven Soderbergh’s male stripper comedy-drama, according to the folks over at Indiewire.

Loosely based on Channing Tatum’s experiences as a stripper when he was 19, the first film is the story of an experienced stripper (played by Tatum) who takes a young dancer called The Kid (Alex Pettyfer) under his wing and schools him in the arts of partying, picking up women, and making easy money.

Jacobs is a long time collaborator of Soderbergh’s, having served as producer and assistant director on films like ‘Behind the Candelabra,’ ‘Side Effects,’ ‘The Informant!,’ the ‘Ocean’s’ trilogy, ‘Contagion,’ ‘Solaris,’ and the original ‘Magic Mike.’

‘Magic Mike XXL’ is aiming to shoot this autumn with most of the original cast expected to return.
