MADAGASCAR Spin-Off Lands Director

Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico have gone and caught themselves a director.

The scene stealing penguins from ‘Madagascar’ have landed a director for their first full-length feature film. THR reports that ‘Bee Movie’ co-director Simon Smith has been tapped to helm untitled spin-off.

Along with working on ‘Bee Movie,’ the director has been at the helm of the DVD extras shorts ‘Far Far Away Idol’ and ‘Megamind: The Button of Doom.’

Smith will be working from a script penned by ‘Megamind’ screenwriters Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons. Lara Breay (‘Megamind’) is on board as producer.

The “paramilitary parables” of plucky penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private and Rico are also set to return in next year’s ‘Madagascar 3.’
