Cinema owners go to court to get extension on winding up petition.
In the High Court today, The troubled Light House cinema in Smithfield was granted an adjournment until Friday April 15th. A winding up petition had previously been brought by landlord John Flynn seeking to increase rent from €100,000 to €200,000 a year.
Ms Justice Mary Laffoy said the company was not in debt and had a tax clearance cert. She said the adjournment would allow the board to adopt a “reasonable approach” to the best interest of the company and its creditors and would “act decisively in relation to the matter”.
Speaking of the situation, Minster for Tourism, Arts and Culture Jimmy Deenihan said the State had two options if the Light House cinema were to close. State funding of €1.75 million could be demanded back. Alternatively the consortium could run an art house cinema on the site as a going concern.
