Liam Neeson Joins Scorsese

Neeson and Scorsese reteam for period drama…

Liam Neeson has joined Andrew Garfield, on the cast of the upcoming historical drama ‘Silence,’ reteaming the Northern Irish actor with his ‘Gangs Of New York’ director Martin Scorsese.

Scorsese’s long-gestating adaptation of Japanese novelist Shūsaku Endō’s 1966 novel, the 17th Century-set story follows two Jesuit priests, Sebastião Rodrigues (Garfield) and Francis Garrpe, who face violence and persecution when they travel to Japan to locate their mentor and spread the gospel of Christianity.

Neeson will take the role of the mentor, Fr. Cristóvão Ferreira, who landed in Japan over a decade ago and has gone missing.

Ken Watanabe, who co-starred with Neeson in ‘Batman Begins,’ is also starring, with Adam Driver reportedly playing Francis Garrpe.

The script is by Jay Cocks and Scorsese and production is scheduled to kick off in Taiwan later this year.
