Leonardo DiCaprio Developing RASPUTIN Biopic

DiCaprio to produce and possibly star in biopic of historical figure.

Deadline is hearing that Warner Bros. has acquired screenwriter Jason Hall’s spec script ‘Rasputin’ with plans to develop it as a starring vehicle for Leonardo DiCaprio.

The ‘Inception’ star would play the influential Russian mystic who became an advisor to the Russian Imperial family the Romanovs. Embraced by Tsar Nicholas II and Alexandra as a healer for their only son, Tsarevich Alexei, who secretly suffered from hemophilia, Rasputin’s influence with the family in all matters grew to the point that rivals tried several times to kill him, finally succeeding in 1916.

Producers include DiCaprio’s Appian Way partner Jennifer Davisson Killoran, Kevin McCormick over at Langley Park, and screenwriter/producer Peter Morgan (‘Frost/Nixon, ‘The Queen’).

DiCaprio, who most recently starred ‘The Great Gatsby,’ will next be seen headlining Martin Scorsese’s crime drama ‘The Wolf of Wall Street.’
