KON-TIKI Helmers Hired for Next PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN

Fifth outing locks in its directors.

Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg, the Norwegian directors behind the Best Foreign Language Oscar-nominated ‘Kon-Tiki,’ have landed the job of directing ‘Pirates Of The Caribbean 5’ for Walt Disney Pictures.

The two were originally set to make the action/thriller ‘Spectral’ their next feature, but the filmmakers parted ways with the project earlier this month, leaving their schedule open to take the ‘Pirates’ gig. Other contenders for the director’s chair included, Fredrik Bond (‘The Necessary Death Of Charlie Countryman’) and ‘Snow White And The Huntsman’ helmer Rupert Sanders.

Production on the fifth installment of the blockbuster franchise is gearing up for an early January start with a script coming from Jeff Nathanson (‘Catch Me If You Can,’ ‘The Terminal’).
