Kevin Macdonald Developing Submarine Drama BLACK SEA

Oscar-winning director lines up sub drama.

Screen Daily reports that ‘The Last King of Scotland’ director Kevin Macdonald is teaming up with ‘Matilda The Musical’ scribe Dennis Kelly for the submarine drama ‘Black Sea.’

“I would describe it as ‘The Treasure of The Sierra Madre’ in a submarine… hopefully, it will be one of those hard, intelligent B-movies they used to make – dark, little vicious B-movies,” said Macdonald.

In the meantime, Macdonald (‘State of Play,’ ‘The Eagle’) is moving ahead with his adaptation of Meg Rosoff’s award-winning 2004 young adult novel ‘How I Live Now.’ The film has Saoirse Ronan attached to play an American girl on holiday in the English countryside who finds herself in hiding and fighting for her survival as World War III breaks out.
