Will produce and star in the hourlong series…
Keanu Reeves is the next movie star to make the move the small screen, with Deadline hearing that the ’47 Ronin’ and ‘The Matrix’ star is set to topline the globe-trotting action drama series ‘Rain.’
Based on the best-selling book series by Barry Eisler, the hourlong series will see Reeves playing John Rain, “a half-Japanese, half-American contract assassin who specializes in taking out his targets by making it look like death by natural causes. An outsider in whatever world he is in, Rain ironically finds that the one identity he knows – that of being a hitman – is the very thing that prevents him from bringing others closer into his life.”
Reeves will also serve as executive producer on the series, alongside Chad Stahelski and David Leitch, with whom he recently collaborated with on the upcoming action thriller ‘John Wick.’ Veteran television executive David Ellender’s newly formed television banner, Slingshot Global Media.
“As a huge fan of Barry’s work, I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to bring his iconic character and incredible world to life,” said Reeves. “I’m looking forward to partnering with Slingshot on my first series, and reteaming with Chad and David.”
