Kealan O’ Rourke to Rewrite EMILY THE STRANGE

Will provide script for adaptation…

Award-winning Irish filmmaker Kealan O’Rourke (‘BB agus Bella,’ ‘The Boy in the Bubble,’ ‘Fairycatcher’) has scored script writing duties on the Chloë Grace Moretz–led comic book adaptation ‘Emily The Strange.’

Created by Rob Reger and his company Cosmic Debris in 1993 to promote a clothing line, the titular goth girl has since become an internet and merchandising phenomenon. The sharp-witted teen received a back-story through a series of graphic novels published by Dark Horse Comics.

A previous draft of the Universal-based project was penned by Melisa Wallack (‘Mirror Mirror’).

O’Rourke is currently in development on an adaptation of Brian Selznick’s young adult novel ‘The Houdini Box’ for Chernin Entertainment, along with a feature adaptation his award-winning 2011 short ‘The Boy in the Bubble.’
