Kasdan and Kinberg to Pen STAR WARS Episode VIII & Episode IX

Scribes reportedly set for the new trilogy.

While rumours continue to swirl on who will be taking the director’s chair for Disney’s ‘Star Wars Episode VII,’ THR is hearing word that the house of mouse has closed deals with Lawrence Kasdan (‘Return of the Jedi,’ ‘The Empire Strikes Back,’ ‘Raiders of the Lost Ark’) and Simon Kinberg (X-Men: Days of Future Past,’ ‘Sherlock Holmes’) to pen the final two instalments of the next ‘Star Wars’ trilogy.

Their exact division of responsibilities – who will pen which film – has yet to be determined, but both are expected to also produce the films with Lucasfilm president Kathleen Kennedy.

Kasdan and Kinberg join Oscar winner Michael Arndt (‘Toy Story 3,’ ‘Little Miss Sunshine’) who is already on board to provide the script for ‘Episode VII,’ the first of the new trilogy and the first in the franchise to be made without the hands-on input of creator George Lucas.
