Karl Urban and Wes Bentley Join PETE’S DRAGON As Filming Gets Underway

Live-action/CGI hybrid filming in New Zealand…

‘Dredd’ star Karl Urban, and Wes Bentley (‘American Horror Story: Freak Show,’ ‘Interstellar,’ ‘The Hunger Games’) have become the latest additions to the cast of Disney’s upcoming remake of ‘Pete’s Dragon.’

The actors joins a cast that includes Oakes Fegley (‘This is Where I Leave You’), Oona Laurence (‘Southpaw’), Bryce Dallas Howard (‘Jurassic World’), and Robert Redford (‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’).

‘Ain’t Them Bodies Saints’ filmmaker David Lowery is writing and directing the family fantasy flick with the tale revolving around Pete, a young boy whose parents died in a car crash, and who has been subsequently raised by Elliot, the titular dragon, in a forest.

The film is a straight narrative “reinvention” of the Don Chaffey-directed 1977 musical feature that starred Mickey Rooney, Red Buttons, Shelley Winters, and Sean Marshall.

‘Pete’s Dragon’ is shoot in New Zealand, with production taking place in and around Wellington before moving north to the Rotorua area. Principal photography will finished up in the South Island communities of Tapanui and Invercargill.
