JUMANJI Remake Enslists Zach Helm

Fantasy redo hires scribe.

Screenwriter/director Zach Helm has been brought in to provide the screenplay for Columbia Pictures’ reimagining of the family fantasy adventure ‘Jumanji.’

An adaptation of Chris Van Allsburg’s illustrated short story of the same name, the story revolves around an enchanted board game that unleashes real animals and other jungle elements as the players are playing the game. Joe Johnston directed an adaptation of the book back in 1995 with Robin Wiliams, Kirsten Dunst and Bradley Pierce.

Helm’s credits include ‘Stranger Than Fiction’ and ‘Mr. Magorium’s Wonder Emporium,’ the latter of which he also directed. The scribe recently provided re-writes for Ben Stiller’s ‘The Secret Life of Walter Mitty.’
