Deadline has word that Jude Law (‘Anna Karenina,’ ‘Side Effects’) has signed on to topline the cast of Kevin Macdonald’s contemporary submarine thriller ‘Black Sea.’
The film, first announced last year, was penned by Dennis Kelly (‘Utopia,’ ‘Spooks’) and follows a submarine captain (Law) who is laid off by a salvage company and makes a deal with a shadowy backer to look for a storied sunken sub reputed to be loaded with gold at the bottom of the Black Sea. Macdonald previously described the film as “‘The Treasure of The Sierra Madre’ in a submarine.”
‘Black Sea’ was developed by, co-produced and will be co-financed by Film 4 and Focus Features. Macdonald is expected to make the thriller is next feature.
