Stone wants Gordon-Levitt to play NSA leaker…

Joseph Gordon-Levitt (‘The Walk,’ ‘Don Jon,’ ‘The Dark Knight Rises’) has reportedly been offered the role of NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden in director Oliver Stone’s forthcoming biopic ‘The Snowden Files.’

According to Deadline, the basis for the story of is that of an American whistle blower who heads to Russia and the back and forth between the leaker and his lawyer as he waits while that country considers his request for asylum.

The film will be based on two books, which Stone and producer Moritz Borman have acquired the rights to – Guardian journalist Luke Harding’s ‘The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World’s Most Wanted Man’ and ‘Time of the Octopus’ by Snowden’s lawyer, Anatoly Kucherena.

Variety states that while Gordon-Levitt has agreed to do the film, an official deal has yet to happen.

Stone is hoping to have the film in production by the end of the year or early 2015 with filming to take place in Munich.
